Ballpark will host R&B singers
Ready for another downtown music event?
The growing roster of Detroit festivals now includes the Ford Detroit
Music Festival, a Sept. 1 concert at Comerica Park featuring crooner
Luther Vandross, young R&B star Ginuwine and classic R&B groovers Frankie
Beverly & Maze.
The show was announced Tuesday at a Comerica Park press conference that
included former Detroit Piston John Salley, who will emcee the Labor Day
Weekend event.
Concerned that the concert will collide with the Ford Detroit
International Jazz Festival? Don't fret, says Elliott Hall, a vice
president at Ford Motor Co., which sponsors both events.
"This event covers the crowd that's not the pure jazz crowd," Hall says.
Organizers say they'll be adding more names to the bill and hope to turn
the festival into an annual, multiple-day party modeled on events in
Cincinnati and New Orleans.
Tickets, $35-$125, go on sale June 23 through Ticketmaster. Call 313-359-
6110 anytime for details.
