Ongoing studies

CBC is supporting a number of researchers in the US in examining the role gelsolin plays in disease and on the impact that gelsolin replacement makes on outcomes in these animal models.

The current clinical development plan for rhu-pGelsolin includes 4 different epidemiology studies examining the natural history of gelsolin levels in different patient population with inflammation and who are at risk of poor hospital outcomes. These trials are currently being conducted in the US and Hong Kong. Once GMP manufacturing of rhu-pGelsolin is complete and appropriate regulatory permissions have been granted, CBC will launch a clinical trial to investigate the pharmacokinetics and safety of the drug in patients with documented depressed gelsolin levels who are at high risk of developing organ system damage. If the results are as expected, a large, international, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial looking at effectiveness will be started.
